My essay on Donna Summer’s debut LP Lady of the Night (1974) is up for reading now at Blogcritics, where it was first published. Celebrating Donna Summer’s 40th year anniversary in popular music, I peer into this obscured gem of a recording and its impact on Summer’s recording legacy. Make sure to check it out!

  1. Gene 'Scott' Ebeling

In my mind, this album was the beginning of a musical legend both lyrically & musically. The very first time I had the chance to hear this album (in vinyl, of course) was 1984. The song ‘Lady of the Night’ was my favorite on the album. Plus about the same time I was fortunate enough to see a video of her performance for the same song on German TV. Donna had already made her mark on the musical landscape, but seeing her in this early. early performance while she was maybe 23 or 24 only solidified that embrace.

  2. What a thrill to discover this gem in a second hand market in Amsterdam back in 1988!!
